Potent but simple – Sunday 16 October

This coming Sunday 16 October at 15:00, gather with us – and some bread and wine – to celebrate the victory that Jesus won over death and evil. Sounds rather cosmic for a Sunday afternoon in Essex, doesn’t it?!

But it is in the nature of Jesus’s message that simple things and even weak things are most powerful in the pursuit of goodness and health-giving life. He didn’t do things as great leaders do, using force to win and dominate. Jesus confronted and defeated evil by confounding it.

And he showed that evil is not just ‘out there’ but in all of us. Jesus challenged everyone he met to stop being obsessed with their own agendas and to take on his. Then he showed how it should be done.

A piece of bread and a sip of wine are symbols of God’s love for people and the lengths to which he went to reach them. Potent but simple, and on offer to everyone.
